Wat Krathum Suea Pla, Bangkok

The wat dates from 1772, with updates including the Chinese part from the 1920s. To reach this wat in Prawet, SE Bangkok, you can approach from the On Nut side or from Lat Krabang. You will be struck, first of all, by the size of the grounds, with buildings housing the 80 Buddha Postures Museum, wax sculptures of famous monks, the Tiger God, and the main Buddha covered in Russian diamonds. There is plenty to get around, with many shrines and upstairs areas to explore. You can also take a break by feeding the thousands of fish in the adjoining canal, Khlong Prawet Buriram. Incidentally, the wat takes its name from the Fishing Cats that used to be found in the area – they are a distinct species – now on the worldwide endangered list and only found in zoos in Thailand.
