This is one of those wats that induces a ‘wow’ as you cross the threshold. The pictures online give a flavour of what is in store, but you have to experience it yourself. The hall seems to go on forever, the diamond-shaped mirrors combining with chandeliers to create a kind of infinity vista. Originally of Ayutthaya age, the wat was renovated from 1968 with the centrepiece being the aforementioned 100-metre-long glass vihara lined with mirrors and dazzling lights. The gold Phra Phuttha Chinnarat Buddha at the end of the hall provides the focus for devotees, with many dressed in white set to meditate for the day with accompanying camp chair. The grounds are so huge that you have to drive to get to the other glittering temples on the site. None of them disappoint, and all adopt the mirror theme in their interiors.
