Wat Pa Mok Worawihan
Ang Thong Province
About a thirty-minute drive south-west of Ang Thong, the wat is famous for its reclining Buddha of the Sukhothai period. Alas on this occasion, the hall where it is housed was closed due to renovations all round. It wasn’t much consolation to discover that a festival was being planned for four days hence when all the improvements would be revealed. Next to the Chao Phraya River, the original site was moved 168 metres inland to prevent the Buddha statues, and particularly the star attraction, being damaged by flood waters.
