Kamakura
Kamakura, south-west of Tokyo, was the capital of Japan from 1185-1333. It is a popular day out for many in the Tokyo metropolis, not least for a visit to the Amida Buddha, a huge outdoor statue whose temple was destroyed in a 15th century tsunami. You can expect large crowds for company on public holidays.
