Hong Kong

I have been to Hong Kong a couple of times pre-1997 handover, and a few times after that, but not since the more recent political turbulence. The flavour of the city, from an expat point of view, changed noticeably over time. Initially the white-knuckle arrival at Kai Tak Airport gave a hint of what would undoubtedly follow: exotic and oriental! Later, the slick set up at Chep Lak Kok and the speedy connections foretold a much more ordered, but still colourful experience.

Hong Kong is difficult to photograph at street level, with the buildings towering above you. A wan sun or misty morning also work against getting a good shot. Missing here are photos taken from the Peak (pre-digital), which lay out Hong Kong in all its glory.
