Kawagoe, Saitama

Kawagoe is a thirty minute train ride from Tokyo. The main street still has many old warehouses reminiscent of the Edo Period (1603-1867). People visit these days for the ambience, which has the feel of an old Japanese high street. There is also the Candy Street alleyway with shops laden as the name suggests. Coedo Brewery has its home there too
- they do a sweet potato beer (!?), but their top brew is an excellent IPA!

The Bell of Time was built between 1624 and 1644 and has been telling the time for the citizens of Kawagoe ever since. The current tower dates from 1894.
