Kyoto
Wonderful Kyoto! The emperors of Japan ruled from Kyoto for over 1,000 years, and it shows. Kyoto is considered to be the cultural capital of Japan, with many of its shrines and temples designated World Heritage Sites. As a major tourist attraction, you will need to choose when to visit as it can become extremely busy. You can cycle to see many of the attractions but there is so much to see that your metro-bus pass will prove to be a great investment.
Kyoto is so photogenic, added to which, you will encounter many people dressed as geishas/mako - you can book to dress for a photo-session, then wander around all day basking in your new-found identity.
The Southern Higashiyama Walk can become crowded at weekends or during holidays.
