Wat khao angkhan, Buriram Province
Built on an extinct volcano overlooking the plain, there is evidence of the original structure dating from the 8-9th Centuries. Wat Khao Angkhan however is a modern arrangement (early 1980s), of both a traditional Buddhist wat and a Chinese temple. The buildings are mostly of red clay and are surrounded by rows of matching Buddha statues. The wat is 20 kms west of Phanom Rung Historical Park and 18 kms south of Nang Rong, or an hour’s drive south from Buriram.
