About a twenty-minute drive north-west of Ang Thong, the wat is easy enough to find and just as easy to spot as the second largest reclining Buddha in Thailand, at 50-plus metres long, reveals itself wrapped in spotlessly clean gold and yellow. Created during the Sukhothai period (1238-1438), the Buddha used to be indoors as evidenced by the low brick walls but the original hall burnt down, leaving the statue exposed to the sun for hundreds of years. Kings through the ages have come to pay homage here, including Chulalongkorn and Rama IX. On a midweek morning, only a handful of people were there.
