The main feature here is the huge reclining Buddha which is over 50 metres long (165 feet). In fact, it is so long that it is not possible to fit in your viewfinder, camera or phone, with pillars stymieing your efforts. The statue is said to predate the founding of Ayutthaya in 1351. Walking all around the prone figure you pass rows of Buddha statues in varying postures with donation boxes at regular intervals for you to deposit the heaps of one-baht coins that you picked up at the entrance. Many of the Buddhas bear multiple gold-leaf offerings which accumulate on top of each other, fluttering at the slightest of fan prompts. Being a Sunday there was also an extensive market and matching festive buzz as folks entered into the spirit of the day.
