Ho Chi Minh City Hall is officially known as ‘Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Head Office’. It was built between 1902-08 in French colonial style and was formerly the Hotel de Ville. Now a functioning civic building, it is not generally open to the public. The building is best seen at night as it commands a view down the length of Nguyen Hue St, which is a wide boulevard fit for promenading in the evening. The building’s golden glow makes for a perfect photo-backdrop and will likely feature at some point in your downtown evening.
Everyone knows the building even if they don’t know its name. Careful when entering your taxi app destination, as there is a people’s committee building in every district! |
