Prasat Hin Muang Tam is a Khmer Hindu temple in Buriram Province dating from the 10-11th Centuries. It may have been the regional administrative centre of nearby Phanom Rung. The five prangs (towers) in the centre of the temple are in two rows (a three and a two), but the beautiful symmetry is further enhanced by the four L-shaped barays (ponds) that surround the temple. The barays are thought to have had a ceremonial function. The stonework is mostly sandstone with a laterite base; together the textures and colours make for a calming atmosphere whilst walking round. It would be easy to miss Muang Tam in order to focus on Phanom Rung - but do see both!
