About a forty-minute drive south-east of Bueng Kan, Yod Phu Tok is sometimes marked as Wat Phu Tok after the wat at the base. The sandstone outcrop has a number of levels which you can climb to, leading to level 7, the very top. One level has rows of Buddhas in a cave recess. The tiered walkways are described as ‘scary’ in reviews: the reviews don’t lie! You access the various levels by ascending the hundreds of steps (take your time), then edge your way round the gantries precariously fixed to the cliff-face - and seemingly held in place by a combination of nails and hope. Not for the faint of heart, this one, but definitely worth the effort. There are no fences or markers at level 7, so it wouldn’t be too difficult to walk straight off the cliff - fittingly, this level is described as 'heaven'.
