Yanaka Ginza is easy enough to get to, being a short walk from Nippori Station, two stops down from Ueno. Descending the stone steps as you approach the archway you have ample time to anticipate what’s in store in this ‘traditional shopping street,’ as it is tagged on the map. And you won’t be disappointed. Lining the street, either side, are restaurants and those kinds of non-branded shops that charm you into entering to peruse the goods. It is almost guaranteed that you will end up buying something that you didn’t know you needed when you set out that day – possibly cat themed (although I am not sure what all the cat stuff is all about). The stone steps, Yanaka Yuyake Dandan, make for a popular sunset photo-spot.
