Seua Ten means dancing tiger, after the local village where tigers used to roam. For ‘dancing’, read ‘leaping’, as in leaping over the adjacent Mae Kok River - although looking at the width of the river, that seems a bit fanciful! The local community decided to rebuild the wat that was abandoned 80-100 years ago, so work began in 2005 and finished in 2016. The main hall is decorated in elaborate blue and gold patterns and depictions of Buddha’s journey to enlightenment. The huge white Buddha is also back-lit in blue. The effect of the intricate indigo blue surroundings is jaw-droppingly powerful, not to say a bit trippy! The Blue Wat may be a newcomer but it’s on everybody’s itinerary now.
