The wat, also known as Wat Nong Phong Nok (not sure why), is located in Nakhon Pathom, about a two hour drive out of Bangkok. Rounding the bend, you are suddenly greeted by a huge golden seated Buddha flanked by equally tall stucco white and brown Buddha statues. This is quite a stunning welcome! Entering the main ordination hall, the centrepiece is an orange Buddha statue surrounded by teak walls; the colour symbolizes the emperor’s robes. This is an equally captivating setting – the interior standing in stark contrast to the frontage outside. Much renovation is still going on in the adjacent buildings and as ever, there was a chance to scribe your wish and your name on one of the stack of tiles which was about to find its way onto a roof somewhere on the site.
