'Wat Ben' as it is known locally, is also referred to as the 'Marble Temple', as it was built using Italian marble. Dating from 1899, Wat Ben's full name means ‘the temple of the fifth king located near the Dusit Palace’. The beautiful symmetry of the front façade can be seen on the reverse of a five-baht coin. To get there, it is an easy taxi ride from Phaya Thai BTS station. Nearby is the famous Rama V Equestrian Statue, but it was ‘Oi, no photos!’ when I was there.
