Wan Lai Festival, Bang Saen

Bang Saen is a popular Thai resort just south of Chonburi. The beach is generally busy at weekends but none more so than during Songkran and in particular, 16-17th April, when the annual sand sculpture festival takes place. The Wan Lai Festival (the day that flows) is the key day in Songkran, usually associated with immense water fights on different days in different towns locally. But for Bang Saen, the sand stupa building contest takes pride of place.
