Ubon is one of the four main cities of Isan and the administrative centre of Ubon Ratchathani Province. It is a relatively new settlement having been established in the 18th century. It does have a number of striking wats though, despite its relative lack of history. Some of the wats exhibit Lao architectural styles, reflecting its location in the far south-east of Isan. Featured here are four in or near to the city, along with the wat that glows in the dark, 100 kms further east next to the border with Laos.
