Greater Tokyo is listed as having a population of some 37 million - exactly why the word 'megalopolis' was coined. You can go out every weekend to look at a new district and never run out of options, particularly with the public transport system which must be the most comprehensive one on the planet. The first thing that you notice is the concrete boxy architecture (new-build after the city was razed in WWII) or, if you are out at night, it will be the neon. It's a totally vibrant, in-your-face experience, but there are also plenty of quiet nooks and crannies to see off the beaten track.
