Sukhothai was the capital of Thailand from the 13th-15th Centuries before gradually merging
with Ayutthaya. The historical park pictured here is designated a World Heritage Site. A good time to visit is during the Loy Krathong festival (full moon in November) when a spectacular evening show is put on, but you will need advance bookings for accommodation. It's not the easiest of places to get to, being a 5.5 hour drive from Bangkok or a 3.5 hour drive from Chiang Mai. There are express bus options from either city as well - it is worth the trip though! |
