Phu Thok is a hill twenty minutes' drive south of Chiang Khan. You get there before dawn and park up ready to pile into one of the fleet of baht-buses which are lined up waiting for arrivals. The ascent is rapid, perilous and cold! You aren't allowed to take your own car up, and just as well. There is a buzz in the crowd at the first hint of light which reveals what has been keenly anticipated - a sea of clouds! Not exactly a blanket on this occasion, but good enough. I guess winter is the best time for the temperature inversion needed for clouds to form (these pics were taken in December). Take a top with you, it can be very chilly!
