Khao Khitchakut National Park is in Chanthaburi Province. The highest point is Khao Phra Bat at 3,560' (1,085m), being the site of Buddha's footprint, and one of the most holy places in Thailand. Usually, huge crowds make the pilgrimage, especially at weekends. The walk up and down takes anything from 3-4 hours including rests and stops for devotions. The steps make for an orderly, albeit steep, pathway - you also can opt to go for the sea of clouds before sunrise (if you are lucky). The site is only open from January to March.

The red sashes can be bought at the entrance by the pick-ups, along with gold leaf and gemstones for scattering on Buddha's footprint - not sure if the gems are real! The shrine where you tie your sash is a further 1.5 kms up the hill from the footprint. The path goes up and down and is probably the steepest part of the climb. You write your earnest hopes on the sash, which flaps away like a prayer-flag, the wind carrying your wishes with it.
To get to the beginning of the walk you have to take a baht bus from near Wat Phluang. What follows is a mad white-knuckle, 30-minute ride up gradients which strain even a sturdy pick-up. Once there, the shaded walk is very steep in places, but do-able if you pace yourself. There is the option of litter bearers of course...
