Buriram province is an agricultural area in the rural north-eastern part of Thailand known as Isan. The town itself has undergone a transformation over the years (like all Thai towns), but also becoming a national sporting powerhouse. The Chang Arena is the home of Buriram United football team who did the triple in 2011 and the quadruple in 2014. They play at the Thunder Castle (good name). There is also the Chang International Circuit which hosts World Superbike events as well as MotoGP. These sporting venues sit back-to-back in the Buriram Castle leisure park, featuring faux monuments. Driving out of town, there used to be agricultural equipment for sale all along the main roads – it is car showrooms now, with just the occasional tractor dealership!
